Speaking and collaboration
Bec is a regular keynote speaker at various health, Wellness and corporate events. One of her most recent engagements was at The State of Wellness Summit in Geelong to over 150 women. Bec finds this an incredibly powerful way to connect to people, as she believes in the power of shared experience as a way to truly exercise her compassionate, real and empathetic approach to her patients. Bec’s vulnerability is what makes her relatable and real to a broad range of people.
Bec feels just as comfortable speaking to small, intimate groups as she does to a large audience, exercising her ability to reach beyond the traditional one on one approach to health. The one to many approach has just as much capacity to ignite reflection and change as a one on one consultation.
Bec has recently been chosen to be the Ambassador for the “This Girl Can”, initiative from the Surf coast shire. This Girl Can is a campaign focusing on and encouraging to remain active and healthy by engaging in regular exercise. Bec has seen the benefits of this in her own life and in incredibly passionate about sharing this. This is a voluntary position.
Bec has also facilitated a number of workshops, regularly attracting over 60 participants per event. Her gut health workshop was a stand-out favourite and Bec aims to continue to offer these to the public, as well as working on some new topics such as women’s health, fertility and mental health.
She has been a regular guest panel speaker for a number of documentary screenings including “What’s With Wheat”, “The Magic Pill” and “The Gut Movie”.
Bec is also a member of the Youth Mental health services team with the Surf Coast shire which sees her engaging with local teens as a way to highlight and participate in a range of activities promoting positive body image, nutrition and mental health. Popular sessions include her cooking workshops, bath salt making, herbal tea women’s circles, whilst allowing plenty of time for organic conversation about ways they may be able to utilise health and wellness to help manage their physical and emotional hurdles. Bec feel especially passionate about investing her time and expertise to the particularly vulnerable, disengaged and at-risk youths.
In another life, before kids, Bec tutored with the School of Medicine Deakin, Waurn Ponds Campus, facilitating PBL (problembased learning) tutorials to first and second year medical students. This gave Bec valuable insight into the medical degree curriculum, allowing her to view health from a western medical perspective, which has shaped her as an integrative Naturopath and allowed excellent and strong relationships with many local GP’s and medical specialists.
Bec is community minded and you are just as likely to see her speaking at a fundraising event as you are at a natural medicine conference. Her natural inclination and curiosity sees her fitting into most crowds, which opens up important conversations about how we can all better understand and improve our health. ‘
Bec encourages any enquiries about how she might be able to add value to any conversation whether in a corporate setting, event or clinical capacity. Just ask and reach out, her motto so far, which has proven relatively successful, it to say yes to any opportunity!
