Women's Health

Women’s health encompasses a myriad of cycle and menstrual irregularities ranging from diagnosed conditions such as PCOS, Endometriosis, Fibroids, Fertility struggles and PMDD (Pre Menstrual Dysphoric Disorder) to  peri menopause and menopause,  as well as those women who find themselves being swallowed up and overwhelmed with menstrual and hormonal symptoms, yet lack the diagnosis or due specialised care they need to manage and navigate these complex conditions.  Bec sees adolescents who may be experiencing period pain or irregularities early in their menstruating lives, the anxiety  and mood swings that may sometimes accompany this. Her role in the Surf Coast Shire youth services team sees her in a mentoring capacity with many local, young females, discussing and bringing awareness to their nutritional health, stress management,  activity and simply giving them insight into what is actually happening hormonally to instill more of a sense of control and understanding.

Bec helps women daily,  find better ways to manage not only the physical pain and discomfort that may be associated with their periods, but the now all too common severe mood dysfunction that is an unwelcome visitor, often from day 21-menstruation. It is not uncommon to hear stories of severe, debilitating anxiety, depression, suicidal thoughts, apathy, feeling disillusioned and completely overwhelmed. Then,  like a tide, day 1 of her period comes, and its like a distant memory. Sound like you? You should not have to put up with this, with simple changes, this can be overcome.

Bec has had her own experience with being diagnosed with PCOS, endometriosis and adenomyosis in her early 20’s, then going on to navigate the unknown terrain of her own fertility. She knows all too well the uncertainty, fear, anger and frustration at trying to better understand and overcome these hormone hurdles, especially if you wish to try and manage these conditions with an integrative, naturopathic approach.  No only did Bec conceive her 2 boys (2011 and 2013) easily and healthy with the right preparation (everybodys’ needs differ), but now manages pain free periods and minimal cyclic swings now that she had the right formula for her with a combination of herbs, nutrition and dietary underlay. Once upon a time, it was not unusual for Bec to land herself in emergency, requiring morphine on several occasions, to manage the severe pain associated with her endometriosis and adenomyosis. Yet this only spurred her determination to find a way to manage this naturally, but to also help other women in the same boat. It is her hope for every woman, regardless of the physical and emotional symptoms, to gain understanding and relief. This process is to not only identify the hormonal imbalances (with simple pathology in most cases) and an extensive referral network of integrative GP’s and gynaecologists, but to facilitate each and every woman’s journey to get to a point of optimal health.  Bec really gets in the trenches with you, wears her heart on her sleeve and aims to maintain a realistic approach to overcoming each and every woman’s health challenges.

Bec’s approach is thorough, integrative, individualised, empathetic and compassionate. She advocates for every woman, no matter their age, stage or diagnosis. Through completing a masterclass in Fertility with the world-renowned Leah Hectman (Naturopath, Masters in Reproductive medicine and author of “Clinical Naturopathic Medicine”) and Angela Hywood (Naturopath, Masters in Reproductive Medicine), Bec then went on to complete an intensive, weekly 6-month mentorship with Angela, which completely revolutionised how Bec approached her patients and their conditions.

Bec was also lucky enough to be a tutor with the school of Medicine, tutoring 1st and 2nd-year medical students, for 3 years, facilitating tutorials in reproductive medicine and a host of other body systems. This enabled Bec to get the medical perspective and management angle of many reproductive conditions, essential when helping women navigate this terrain with their own medical professionals and specialists.
